A new era begins this month for the Town of Castle Rock as Michael J. Hyman sets to work as Town Attorney, becoming the first newcomer to fill the post in 32 years.
Hyman succeeds now-retired Attorney Bob Slentz and brings to the Town more than 30 years of municipal law experience all his own. Hyman served for 32 years in various positions with the City of Aurora, including four years as City Attorney. He has spent the last two years with the City and County of Denver, as Deputy City Attorney.
The Aurora resident is enthusiastic about making the move to Castle Rock, both professionally and personally. He and his wife, Cindy, plan to make the Town their home soon.
“I cannot think of a better place to do this job than the Town of Castle Rock,” Hyman told Town Council on June 16 as the group voted unanimously to approve his employment agreement. “I’m looking forward to joining you all here and being part of this community.”
Council selected Hyman from among dozens of applicants in a nationwide search for the next Town Attorney, conducted by executive recruitment firm Peckham & McKenney. Following a late May interview process, Hyman earned enthusiastic recommendations for the position from both Town staff and Town Council members.
“We were really impressed with everything,” Mayor Pro Tem and District 4 Councilman Jason Bower told Hyman. “We’re excited to have you.” Bower and Mayor Jason Gray led the recruitment process on Town Council’s behalf.
Key projects in which Hyman played a role while in Aurora included bringing the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center and the Prairie Waters Project to the community. This and other background gives Hyman great experience from which to draw upon to provide legal services to the Town of Castle Rock.
Said Mayor Gray upon Hyman’s appointment: “I’ve gotten several messages from people around the State, saying that we’ve got a great attorney.”
