In November, elections will be held for the Councilmembers representing the newly drawn Town Council Districts 3 and 5. Castle Rock’s first Mayor at-large will also be on the ballot.

Candidates interested in becoming a candidate for these offices must first register with the Town Clerk. Registered candidates may pick up nominating petitions starting Monday, Aug. 6, and may start circulating the petitions starting Tuesday, Aug. 7.

An optional orientation session for prospective candidates looking to learn more about running for office will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and registered to vote in Town. They must also have lived in Town for at least 12 months prior to the election date of Nov. 6.

Candidates for Town Council must live within the district up for election.

The deadline to turn in nomination petitions with the Town Clerk is no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27.

Town Code dictates that a Mayoral petition must contain signatures from at least 10 registered electors in each of the Town’s six new Council districts. A Councilmember petition must contain signatures from at least 25 registered electors in the district they would represent. A map of the 2018 election districts is available at CRgov.com/ElectionDistricts.

A registered voter may sign only one Councilmember and one Mayoral candidate’s nominating petition. Additionally, candidates must personally circulate their own nominating petitions.

Elections for Mayor and Town Council are held in November of even-numbered years. Seats are up for election on an alternating basis, so Districts 1, 2, 4 and 6 will elect Councilmembers in 2020.
