First public hearing for proposed Animal Code changes set for Council meeting April 17

ProposedCodeChangesFINAL

Changing Castle Rock’s local laws requires two public hearings and Town Council approval. For proposed changes to Town Code related to animals, the first of two formal considerations by Town Council – and related public hearing – will be during Council’s meeting Tuesday, April 17.

Following two open houses and initial public feedback, staff on March 6 presented the proposed changes to Council, and Council directed staff to move forward and formally present those changes at a later date.

That formal presentation will be during Tuesday’s Council meeting. Council meetings begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St. View agendas at CRgov.com/Agendas. (The agenda will be posted by the end of the day Thursday.)

There will be time for public comment, with priority going to Town residents. Those who are planning to speak should be aware of the following protocol:
• The time for residents to speak on this topic will be when Council is considering the agenda item as an “Advertised Public Hearing.” (Not during the “Unscheduled Public Appearances” portion.) Please note that times slated on the agenda are approximate.
• Please arrive early and sign up to speak
• Each speaker generally is allowed up to four minutes, and comments must be related to this agenda item.
• Speaker priority will be given to Castle Rock residents.

As a home rule municipality, the Town of Castle Rock has its own set of laws and codes. It's prudent for a local government to take a look at its laws from time to time to ensure they are up to par with current legal best practices and local culture. That's why Town staff started a review of the Town Code related to animals in 2017.
