Raptors Rock Castle Rock at Wednesday night summer event

Raptors Over the Rock

Living side-by-side with wildlife is part of what makes Colorado a great place to call home. Nature enthusiasts and bird watchers alike know the best places to go for a great view. But, instead of heading to the trails to catch a sneak peek at Castle Rock’s wild side, take the opportunity to see several birds of prey up close and personal at an exciting new summer event.

Join Nature’s Educators for Raptors Over the Rock from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 at the Amphitheater at Philip S. Miller Park.

Learn more about the characteristics that define raptors, and discover the various types that live all over the world. Plus, learn more about what these birds eat, how they hunt and where they live.

This free family friendly program will give participants an up-close and personal look at the lives of raptors. Meet four different birds that represent the raptors in our area. Hear their personal stories from their handlers. Ask questions, take pictures and learn more about these majestic birds.

To kick off the event, the Critter Crate from Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be at the Amphitheater starting at 5 p.m. This interactive crate contains bird nests, eggs, puppets, talons, tracks, birds of prey charges, and more.

Registration is available, but not required. However, seating is limited to the first 500 people. Families, bring a picnic dinner to complete the night.

Donations for the Douglas Land Conservancy will be accepted during the event. The non-profit organization is dedicated to the protection and conservation of the natural character, habitat and open space of Colorado. Recommended donations are $10 per person or $20 per family.
