Voters in Castle Rock’s Council District 5 can expect to see a recall question on their November ballot for Councilwoman Renee Valentine.
Per State Statute and Town Charter, Town Council was required to set an election date for the recall with the conclusion of the recall process last week. During a its meeting Tuesday night, Council set the recall for the general election on Nov. 8.
The Town’s Charter allows a petition to be circulated in attempt to recall a Town Councilmember within a certain timeframe. In order to prompt an election, the petition must go through a process defined in Town Charter. In this case, the petitioners’ petition was approved for circulation; signatures were verified, and the petition was deemed sufficient; and a protest that was filed was then withdrawn.
Voters will be asked whether to retain or recall Valentine. If she is recalled, Town Council would appoint her replacement, who would serve the remainder of the term, which ends in 2018.
Here’s what to know about the election:• Only voters in District 5 will see the question on their November ballot• Ballots will be mailed as part of the November general election in mid-October• Ballots can be returned by mail or in-person to Town Hall (100 N. Wilcox St.) or the Douglas County Elections Office (125 Stephanie Place). Both locations have 24/7 drop boxes• Election results will be posted online at CRgov.com/recall
