New Town event series helps you unwind Downtown Fridays

DowntownAfter5.jpg

After a long week at work, many people are looking for ways to unwind and relax. Spend time Downtown this season with the Town’s new Downtown After 5 series.

On select Fridays May through September, Downtown Castle Rock will come alive. Enjoy live music, craft beer, cocktails and themed food trucks. Plus, check out work by local artisans, pick up specialty gifts, and enjoy live painting presentations.

The event series is part of Town Council’s goal to keep our community character alive. The Downtown After 5 event series is part of the Town’s first full year of ramped up community festivals, concerts and activities. The priority is to continue to bring family friendly events to the Downtown area.

Downtown After 5 will be held one Friday a month. Event goers are invited to Festival Park from 5 to 8 p.m. to participate in the festivities. Each month, the band and food trucks will be themed to complement each other. The event dates are:

• May 6 – Bluegrass and Barbecue: Gipsy Moon will create the mood with a blend of indie-folk, Latin, jazz and bluegrass. If the music doesn’t bring you out, the smell of summer cooking will. Complete the evening with barbecue-themed food trucks Rory’s Rollin’ Diner and LanteBrau-Casa.
• June 3 – Cajun Blues: Take a trip to the Castle Rock version of Bourbon Street. David Gerald will be entertaining with his blues-infused soul rock. A crawfish boil and other Cajun-inspired food by LanteBrau-Casa and Rory’s Rollin’ Diner will help round out the evening.
• July 8 – Salsa: Azucar Latin Band will bring their horn section and salsa-inspired tunes to spice up Festival Park. Put on your dancing shoes and enjoy authentic Mexican food and street tacos from food trucks like California Wrap Runner.
• Aug. 5 – Bourbon, Boots and Bands: To get in the spirit of the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo, the Ben Marshal Band will be filling the park with country sounds to go along with the southern cooking. Plus, you won’t want to missing the bourbon distillery showcase. Grab your boots and brush up on the Electric Slide.
• Sept. 16 – Supermagick will be ushering out the summer season with a mix of soul, jazz, and rhythm and blues. A farm-to-table concept will help our community truly celebrate the season.
