Hangman's Gulch and E. Plum Creek Trail improvements

Improvement updates

  1. Hangman's Gulch Trail will re-open on Saturday, September 15.

Drainage improvements

Flood control and trail improvement projects often go hand-in-hand. That's why the Parks and Recreation Department and Castle Rock Water's Stormwater Division have been working together near Hangman's Gulch Trail. Phase 3 of the Hangmans Gulch channel improvements from I-25 to the confluence of East Plum Creek Trail are underway.

In addition to grade-control structures along the channel, proposed improvements include drainage modifications at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing and an upsize of the culvert crossing at the East Plum Creek Trail. These improvements will help reduce storm impacts to the trail system.

Project update

Bids came back for the Town's review on Dec. 8. Of the 13 contractors who attended the pre-bid meeting in November, four provided bids and local contractor, HEI Civil was selected for the project.

Construction will be occurring June through September 2018. The west side of Hangman's Gulch Trail from I-25 to East Plum Creek Trail will be closed in mid-July and will typically remain closed until the construction of additional grade-control structures is complete. An attempt to open the Hangman's Gulch Trail, when feasible and safe for the public, is being made. Barricades will be in place when construction activity is occurring between I-25 and the Union Pacific Railroad. Please do not cross the barricades when in place.

The culvert replacement at the East Plum Creek Trail is currently estimated to be completed in July. A temporary detour through the vegetation and around construction will be necessary in order to keep the trail open during construction. As soft-surface detour will be provided.
